Hey There Webisphere!

My Phantogram remix made its way onto the “John in the Morning” show last week on world-famous KEXP radio! Pretty honored about it – John is a legend… (but he is NOT John Legend)

Check the playlist HERE.

And in other news, I went to Brooklyn Bowl last night where I saw 4 bands in a row, each one with friends of mine in them. Must be a world record of some sort. First came Yr Youth, then Mr. Dream, then Murder Mystery, and then Project Jenny, Project Jan to close it out.

And I might add, it was PJPJ’s first show with their new live band. They played through a lot of the new material we’ve been working on together all year, and it was AWESOME! Oh, and David Best of Fujiya & Miyagi came out with them for a nice little encore.

All in all, quite a night. Anyhoo, holla at your boy

Much love,
A

48 Hour Magazine: Hustle
Good day, internet-travelers!
Two pieces of news to share today. The first of which is my song, “Milk and Cookies,” soundtracked the trailer to 48-Hour Magazine’s launch, pictured above. The concept for the project is pretty incredible, and I was stoked to be a part of it. Here’s their mission-statement:

Good day, internet-travelers!

Two pieces of news to share today. The first of which is my song, “Milk and Cookies,” soundtracked the trailer to 48-Hour Magazine’s launch, pictured above. The concept for the project is pretty incredible, and I was stoked to be a part of it. Here’s their mission-statement:

“A raucous experiment in using new tools to erase media’s old limits. As the name suggests, we’re going to write, photograph, illustrate, design, edit, and ship a magazine in two days.”

You can learn more about the project at their website, 48hrmag.com. The trailer was created by the lovely and talented Ms. Kasia Cieplak Von Baldegg, and you can check out more of her work at www.kasiacieplak.com/.

The second piece of news for the day is another of my songs, “Snuggle Up to Nail Down,” was played during the most recent episode of “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me.” I got an excited voicemail from a friend saying, “99.9% sure I heard you on the radio!” How cool is that? Granted, they only included the first 8 seconds of the song, but still feeling pretty cool, right now. You can check out the podcast on iTunes by clicking HERE. The song comes on around minute 39 or so, if you REALLY wanna go the distance…

New remix to come later this week, so stay tuned for that. Happy trails, til then!

Hello homies!

Got a truly wonderful response to my White Hinterland remix – I’m thrilled everyone came along for the ride!

A few things to report before I recap:

1) As many of you know, I’ve been co-producing the latest record for Project Jenny, Project Jan. We are so close to wrapping it up, I can taste it! Final mixes are complete, now in the middle of the mastering process. I seriously can’t wait!

2) Pleased to announce I’m working on MY next record – going to be a collaborative effort, working with a host of awesome special guests. Been sketching out ideas pretty regularly, very pumped to be working on my own stuff again. Lord knows where it’ll all end up, but it’s going to be awesome, I can tell you that…

3) Also been working a lot these days with my new friends, The Kickdrums. Doing some Postal-Service style email exchanges, trading ideas back and forth. Really fun stuff.

4) And lastly, my song “The Hustle” randomly wound up in yet ANOTHER extreme sports video. This time for some sort of Mountain Dew snowboarding event… Check it:

Moving right along, the White Hinterland remix picked up all sorts of steam over the past few weeks! Made it into Elbo.ws Hot Tracks after a nice thumbs up from WH’s record label, Dead Oceans.

Here’s the blog breakdown – thanks a bazillion to everyone that was kind enough to listen and write:

The World in a Paper Cup “Wilkis is one of the most consistent artists out there.
Nice little shout-out in The Independent, as well, in which they state that I am a “Brooklyn DJ.” Sure, why not?

And lastly, got some KCRW radio airplay again. Amen to those DJs over there, always keepin their ears open to all things indie. Gotta love ‘em!

In other news, I’m seeing Mr. Jamie Lidell at the Bowery tonight, and I am supremely excited for it. If anyone’s gonna be there, come say hi! That is all…

Hope everyone’s good!

This month’s episode features yours truly, alongside Dum Dum Girls, J Dilla, Elliot Smith, and Ariel Pink, among others… Here’s the playlist:

 1. Delorean – Stay Close
2. Cults – Go Outside
3. J Dilla – The Diff’rence
4. Mindless Boogie – El Toro (Prins Thomas Edit)
5. Prins Thomas – Uggebugg
6. Holy Fuck – Latin America
7. Wait What – Islands Is The Limit (Notorious B.I.G. vs The XX Mashup)
8. The Jam – Boy About Town
9. Dum Dum Girls – Jail La La
10. RJD2 – The Shining Path (Alan Wilkis Remix)
12. Elliott Smith – Twilight
13. Crayon Fields – All The Pleasures Of The World (Dan Block Remix)
14. Crayon Fields – All The Pleasures of The World
15. Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti – Round and Round

And be sure to check out some of their previous episodes as well – they’re a wonderful, democratic, and extremely-reliable source of what’s new and awesome out there. I also had the great pleasure of meeting the folks behind the show, and they are just delightful people. Amen.

On a completely different note, I’ve REALLY been enjoying the new album from Flying Lotus, entitled “Cosmogramma.” Really awesome cut-n-paste electronic, but with a little bit of that Dilla goodness in the pulse… Really interesting sample-choices and amazing sense of rhythm. Here’s one song that uses a ping-pong ball sound for the beat, and features Laura Darlington (wife of Daedalus, oddly enough) on vocals:

“Table Tennis (ft. Laura Darlington)”

Hello Fam-a-lam!

The reviews are in for my RJD2 remix, and the response was once again overwhelming! Time Out NY called me a “Brooklyn studio whiz,” The UK Independent noted that I’m “quickly becoming the go-to guy for remixes among the indie sector,” some more Sirius/XM satellite radio airplay, sat on Elbo.ws top ten list for well over a week, and for the 4th time this year hit #1 on the Hypemachine charts!

So… ttttthankkkkk yyyyyyouuuu a million times over to those of you out there that listened and/or had something kind to say!

Before I get down to business, I should tell y’all I’m hard at work on a few new remixes, two of which are quite different from my usual fare, in large part because there’s FEMALE SINGERS on both… Oooooooh

And now, down to bloggin’ bizzzness:

The Independent “Quickly becoming the go-to guy for remixes among the indie sector, Wilkis has a knack for retaining the integrity of the original track but adding just enough flavour to make the interpretation fresh and worth listening to.”
Time Out NY “This new version—reworked by Brooklyn studio whiz Alan Wilkis—is even better… A mix of between G-funk, classic soul and sunny California pop”

I just did my very first radio interview for a show called “The Daily Feed” on WFPK 91.9 FM in Louisville, KY. The show will be re-broadcast on a few other stations nationally.

Past interviewees include OK GO, Spoon, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Sonic Youth, and more! I’m feelin both proud and flattered to say the least… Although I’m totally cringing at the sound of my own voice.

Catch the interview, weirdo-voice and all, right here: On the Phone with… Alan Wilkis

And in closing, I think it’s only appropriate to post a few amazing radio-related songs, starting with my favorite of all time:
